How do I know if my move is local or long-distance?
A local move usually stays within one town or nearby towns and is billed by the hour. A move across state lines or a long haul is long-distance and is usually quoted from weight or volume and distance. If you are unsure, share both addresses and we will sort it out.
What should I include when I ask for an estimate?
Give the pickup and delivery towns, the type and size of the home or office, any stairs or long carries, specialty items, whether you want packing help and your preferred move date. Late spring through early fall is busiest, so earlier requests have more date choices.
Can I hire movers just to load or unload?
Yes. With labor-only help, you supply the truck, trailer or container and the movers load or unload it. You are responsible for driving and for the vehicle. This is billed by the hour and works well when you already have a rental or a storage container.
What can't go on the moving truck?
Movers cannot carry hazardous materials such as propane tanks, gasoline, paint, aerosol cans, ammunition, pool chemicals or cleaning chemicals. Keep cash, jewelry, important documents and perishable food with you. Plants on a long trip are usually better traveling with you too.
I'm moving on military orders. What should I do first?
Contact your installation transportation office before booking. They can tell you whether the government arranges the move or you handle it yourself and seek reimbursement under your orders. They also confirm which costs are reimbursable and which receipts and weight tickets you need.
