He even got out the tape measure first before just trying to smash the furniture through the door, so he made sure everything fit first, and did not damage anything. - Distance: A local move is commonly quoted by the hour. A long-distance move is usually quoted from the weight or volume of the shipment and the miles.
- Services your orders cover: If you pack yourself or only need loading, the scope is smaller. Full packing adds time. Your orders and transportation office tell you what is covered.
- Stairs, carries and access: Stairs, long walks from the door to the truck and tight driveways add handling time at either home.
- Specialty items: Pianos, gun safes, hot tubs and pool tables need extra equipment and planning, so mention them early.

Questions we get
Should the government arrange my move or should I do it myself?
On a PCS move, you can have the government arrange the move or do a personally procured move and seek reimbursement under your orders. Before booking, ask your installation transportation office which costs are reimbursable and which receipts and weight tickets you need.
What if my report date changes?
Tell the office your earliest and latest possible dates when you first call. Late spring through early fall is the busiest season here, so booking early gives you a better choice of dates and more room if your orders change.
Can I rent a truck and just hire help to load it?
Yes. That is labor-only help. You supply the truck, trailer or container and the movers load or unload it. You are responsible for driving and for the vehicle. This is a common fit for a personally procured move.
What should I keep off the moving truck?
Movers cannot carry hazardous materials such as propane tanks, gasoline, paint, aerosol cans, ammunition, pool chemicals or cleaning chemicals. Keep cash, jewelry, important documents and your orders with you. On long trips, carry perishable food and plants too.
What should I tell you to get an accurate estimate?
Give the pickup and delivery towns, the type and size of your home, any stairs or long carries, specialty items, whether you want packing help and your preferred move date. If your orders cover only part of the move, say which part you need.
