He even got out the tape measure first before just trying to smash the furniture through the door, so he made sure everything fit first, and did not damage anything. How is a local move billed compared with a long-distance one?
Local moves and labor-only help are billed by the hour. Long-distance and interstate moves are usually quoted from the weight or volume of the shipment, the distance and any extra services. Ask any company who will actually carry your goods.
When does labor-only help make sense?
It fits when you already have a truck, trailer or container, such as a rental or a storage container. The crew loads or unloads it. You are responsible for the driving and the vehicle, so plan for that before moving day.
What can't go on the truck?
Movers cannot carry hazardous materials such as propane tanks, gasoline, paint, aerosol cans, ammunition, pool chemicals or cleaning chemicals. Keep cash, jewelry, important documents and perishable food with you rather than on the truck.
